The Spiking Crime Prevention & Education Center connects accurate information, prevention education, research, campaigns, and field-response standards so hidden risks can be discussed and prepared for in everyday settings.
We aim to move spiking from a private fear into a shared safety issue that schools, organizations, events, and communities can prevent and respond to together.

This crime is called spiking.
It is not a joke. It can put a person’s body and judgment at risk. The center helps schools, organizations, and event sites understand, prevent, and respond to this unfamiliar risk.

WHY NOW
Spiking requires a systematic safety net beyond individual vigilance.
Spiking is no longer only a nightlife issue. It can threaten everyday safety through drinks, food, injections, vapes, and other forms of non-consensual interference with a person’s body or decision-making capacity.

Drinkaware’s 2025 Monitor suggests that nearly one million UK adults experienced drink spiking in the previous 12 months.

Only 23.4% of victims said they reported to police. Some spiking drugs can leave the body in under 12 hours, making early evidence collection harder, while memory gaps, distrust of police, and doubts that reporting will lead to action can further suppress reporting.

01What is spiking?+
Spiking is a criminal act involving alcohol, drugs, or other substances being introduced into someone’s drink, food, inhaled item, or body without explicit consent, threatening their judgement and physical safety.
02Why is systematic education necessary?+
Unfamiliar crimes require clear action standards, not vague fear. People need practical training on warning signs, help-seeking, and evidence preservation.
03Why it is never the victim’s fault+
Responsibility rests with the offender who acted without consent. Our education exists to identify risks earlier and help bystanders intervene sooner, not to blame victims.
04How should bystanders respond?+
Never leave a suspected victim alone. Move with them to a safe area and connect them with venue staff, medical support, police, or another official response system.
05What comes first in a suspected case?+
Physical protection comes before judging the cause. After safety is secured, record the person’s condition, time, location, and the status of any drink or food where possible.
